Bringing Weed onto a Flight in Checked Luggage – Is It worth the Risk

Millions of people all over the world smoke cannabis; some on a daily basis, so it stands to reason that many people will be wondering about the possible consequences of bringing weed onto a flight in checked luggage.

Millions of people risk it every year and don’t get caught or get into any legal trouble, but then there are the unlucky ones who do get caught and do find themselves in some difficulty. If you are thinking about traveling abroad, and you are considering bringing weed with you in your checked luggage, then it is certainly wise to consider whether or not it would be worth it.

Points to Consider if you are thinking about Bringing Weed in Checked Luggage

If you are thinking about bringing weed with you on your travels, then there are a lot of points that you should keep in mind, if you want to avoid getting into any hot water. Here are a few points for consideration.

  • Your Destination – Let’s assume you are traveling from an American state where cannabis is legal for medicinal purposes. Presuming the TSA have stated that it is ok to bring it in your checked luggage, you may think that you’re safe. However, it is important to consider where you are traveling to. The laws regarding cannabis possession differ so much these days. Whilst it may be legal in some places, there are plenty of others where it won’t be. So, it is always best to check that you are not going to get into trouble when you arrive at your destination.
  • Don’t Carry Other Drugs – If you are insistent on bringing cannabis with you in your checked luggage, then there are a few things that you can do to minimise the amount of trouble that you could get into. For example, it would be very wise to not bring any other illegal drugs with you. Many airport security officers in certain areas will be quite lenient about weed, but absolutely won’t be if you are caught with any other illegal drugs on your person.
  • Don’t Bring Loads – Again, if you have decided that it is a risk that you want to take, then it is always best to make sure that you only bring a small amount of weed with you. If you are found with large quantities, then the chances are that the airport staff will call the police, and you will not only be looking at possession charges, but also possibly charges of intent to supply, even if you state that it is only for personal use. Be sensible about the amount that you intend to bring with you.
  • Don’t Make it Obvious – If you are going to be taking the risk, then make sure that you have not made it obvious that you have weed in your checked luggage. This means carefully disguising the smell, and making sure that it is concealed properly. This will lessen your chances of getting caught, but is obviously not a guarantee that you won’t or a guarantee that you won’t find yourself in legal trouble.

Obviously, bringing weed in your checked luggage, particularly if you are traveling from the UK is not exactly a wise idea. There are too many risks associated with doing so, and you could find yourself in some serious legal difficulties if you choose to risk it. However, if you feel that you are going to take the risk anyway, then always be sure to take as many necessary precautions as possible to minimise the chances of getting yourself into trouble.
